Put a stop to itchy skin with these 7 home remedies

Dry, itchy skin can drive you crazy! The itch can be the result of bug bites, psoriasis, an allergic reaction, or weather. No matter what the cause, you can find relief from your itch through some great homemade remedies.

Each of the seven treatments below have been proven to help relieve bothersome itching. Depending on the cause of your itch, you may even want to try combining some these options.

1. Tea tree oil. Tea tree oil can reduce eczema caused by contact dermatitis. To help soothe and heal your itchy skin, Craft Your Happiness suggests combining 4 drops of tea tree oil, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of water, and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to create an anti-itch cream.

2. Oatmeal. Oatmeal has avenanthramides that help inflammation and soothe irritated skin. Prevention has a great recipe for treating poison ivy, hives, or bug bites. Grind 2 cups of uncooked oatmeal to a fine powder, and add 1/4 cup of baking soda. Add 1 cup of this mixture to a tub of warm water for a soothing soak in the tub. For spot treatment, add enough water to create a paste, and dab it on the itchy spots.

3. Coconut oil. If your itchy skin is the result of dry skin, coconut oil may be what you need. Mercola suggests rubbing it straight onto the dry skin, or you can combine it with some aloe vera or tea tree oil for additional benefits.
